HOSTING SERVICES

ICT suppliers provide hosting services typically by providing a purpose-built location or at least a purpose fitted out area within a building in which the hardware, software, applications and network connections are located. The premises are usually fitted with a number of physical security protections, including smoke detectors and sprinklers as well as a number of sophisticated security measures.

Sometimes the ICT supplier’s customer will supply its own hardware, software, database and applications and these will be hosted in the ICT supplier’s premises.

The ICT supplier can also provide the hardware, operating system software and sometimes the database and the networking equipment to connect the IT infrastructure to the network. The ICT supplier often also provides access to a network between the hosting premises and the client’s site, usually through a third party telco.

Typically these two arrangements are referred to as hosting with customer-supplied equipment or hosting with supplier-provided equipment.
